I am Dr. Yaşar Nursoy, Specialist in General Surgery. I graduated from Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine in 1990 and completed my residency in 1995 at Istanbul Training and Research Hospital. In 1992, together with my colleagues, we founded Avicenna Hospital. For more than 33 years, we have also been providing dental treatments under the brand name Veradent. Over the years, we have welcomed patients from many countries. From Europe and the United States, most patients visit us for dental and aesthetic treatments. From Africa, however, many patients come with more serious health problems. This is why I have personally visited countries such as Somalia, Cameroon, Sudan, Chad, Ethiopia, Egypt, Libya, and Morocco. During my visits, I witnessed hospitals without angiography devices, and in some places, even without MRI machines. Yet, cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide. With the average age of heart attacks being only 57, reaching older ages in Africa is often more difficult. Moreover, around 500,000 people die from malaria in Africa each year. When we add other preventable diseases, we see that many lives could actually be saved. What makes us different is our honesty, transparency, and patient-centered care: We never promise what cannot be achieved. We do not let patients spend money on unnecessary treatments. If a treatment will help, we explain the benefits clearly. If recovery is not possible, we communicate this to families with respect and compassion. For us, health comes before money.
